Terms of Use
Version 1.0 · effective 15 September 2026
These are the terms for using Buy Me This. We've written them in plain English. The short version is below; the full terms follow and are what count.
The short version
- Buy Me This is for planning gifts. Everything you add is private unless you share an item into a group you're in.
- You must be 16 or older to have an account.
- Don't share anything illegal, sexual, hateful, bullying, violent or harmful, or anything about someone else without their OK.
- See something wrong? Tap ⚑ Report on it. A person reviews every report.
- You can block anyone, and they won't be told.
- Paid plans renew every year until you cancel. You can cancel any time.
- Think we got a decision wrong? You can appeal.
1. Who we are
Buy Me This is a trading name of AG Cyber Ltd (“we”, “us”), a company registered in England and Wales (company number 14513719), whose registered office is New Court, The Steadings Business Centre, Maisemore, Gloucester GL2 8EY. Contact us at support@buymethis.online. The person accountable for safety on Buy Me This is Steve Armstrong-Godwin, founder.
By creating an account or using Buy Me This, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your data.
2. Your account
- You must be at least 16. We ask for your date of birth when you sign up and check it on our servers. See how the age limit works.
- An account is for one person. Keep your password to yourself; you're responsible for what happens on your account.
- On a Family plan, each person has their own separate, private account. Nobody on the plan can see anyone else's gifts, lists or budgets.
- You can delete your account at any time from Account → Delete my account. That removes your data, except anything the law requires us to keep (see the Privacy Policy).
3. What you can share, and who sees it
- Everything you create is private to you by default. Nothing is shared until you choose to share a specific item into a specific group.
- When you share an item into a group, everyone in that group can see its title, description, link, shop, price, occasion note and photos. In a co-op group they can also see who it's for (as you wrote their name) and whether it's been bought.
- Your private notes, hiding places and anything in your secret drawer are never shown to a group.
- Groups are invite-only and hold up to 30 people. Invite codes expire after 14 days. A group's owner can remove anyone, and you can leave any group at any time.
- You keep ownership of what you add. You give us permission to store it, process it and show it to the people you choose to share it with, so the service works. Only share things you have the right to share.
4. Safety terms
This section is required by the Online Safety Act 2023. It sets out what isn't allowed, how you can report it, what we do about it, and how we protect younger users.
4.1 What you must not share
You must not upload, write, link to or share into a group anything that:
- is illegal in the UK. That includes child sexual abuse material, terrorist content, intimate images of someone shared or threatened without their consent, sending sexual images to someone who hasn't agreed to receive them, threats, harassment, stalking, hate crimes, fraud, and selling illegal goods or weapons;
- is any of the kinds of content listed in 4.2, whether or not it's illegal;
- is sexual or pornographic;
- uses another person's name, image or personal details without their consent, or reveals private information about them;
- promotes, supports or is run by or for an organisation proscribed under UK terrorism law;
- is spam, or is meant to harm the service or other people (including malicious links).
These rules apply to everyone, whatever their age. We don't check every item before it's shown to a group; we rely on reports, on group owners and on the protections below.
4.2 How we protect younger users from harmful content
People aged 16 and 17 can use Buy Me This. The law treats them as children, so for each kind of content the Online Safety Act identifies as harmful to children, here is how they're protected. Every kind is prohibited for all users. On top of that, Buy Me This is built so harmful content has almost nowhere to spread: there are no public profiles, no search for other people, no feeds or recommendations, no messaging and no comments. Someone only ever sees items shared into a private group they were invited into, by people in that group.
| Kind of content | How younger users are protected |
|---|---|
| Pornographymost serious | Prohibited for everyone. It can only reach a group the uploader is in, never anyone else. Anyone can report it or block the person; once confirmed it's removed from every group, the account is actioned, and our reply to the person who reported it includes where to get support. |
| Content that encourages, promotes or gives instructions for suicidemost serious | Prohibited for everyone. It can only reach a group the uploader is in, never anyone else. Anyone can report it or block the person; once confirmed it's removed from every group, the account is actioned, and our reply to the person who reported it includes where to get support. |
| Content that encourages, promotes or gives instructions for self-harmmost serious | Prohibited for everyone. It can only reach a group the uploader is in, never anyone else. Anyone can report it or block the person; once confirmed it's removed from every group, the account is actioned, and our reply to the person who reported it includes where to get support. |
| Content that encourages, promotes or gives instructions for an eating disordermost serious | Prohibited for everyone. It can only reach a group the uploader is in, never anyone else. Anyone can report it or block the person; once confirmed it's removed from every group, the account is actioned, and our reply to the person who reported it includes where to get support. |
| Abuse aimed at someone's race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, disability or gender reassignment | Prohibited for everyone. Visible only inside an invite-only group. Anyone can report it, leave the group or block the person; once confirmed, it's removed from every group and the account may be suspended or closed. |
| Content that incites hatred on any of those grounds | Prohibited for everyone. Visible only inside an invite-only group. Anyone can report it, leave the group or block the person; once confirmed, it's removed from every group and the account may be suspended or closed. |

| Content showing real or realistic serious violence against a person, or serious injury in graphic detail | Prohibited for everyone. Visible only inside an invite-only group. Anyone can report it, leave the group or block the person; once confirmed, it's removed from every group and the account may be suspended or closed. |
| Content showing real or realistic serious violence against an animal | Prohibited for everyone. Visible only inside an invite-only group. Anyone can report it, leave the group or block the person; once confirmed, it's removed from every group and the account may be suspended or closed. |
| Content that encourages dangerous stunts or challenges | Prohibited for everyone. Visible only inside an invite-only group. Anyone can report it, leave the group or block the person; once confirmed, it's removed from every group and the account may be suspended or closed. |
| Content that encourages taking a harmful substance, or a harmful quantity of one | Prohibited for everyone. Visible only inside an invite-only group. Anyone can report it, leave the group or block the person; once confirmed, it's removed from every group and the account may be suspended or closed. |
| Other content that could harm a child (for example content that stigmatises body shapes or promotes depression) | Also prohibited for everyone. Nothing is recommended or pushed to anyone, so it can't build up in front of a young person. Report it under “Something else” and we'll review it against these terms. |
4.3 How the age limit works
- You must be 16 or over to have an account. We ask for your full date of birth when you sign up (we don't ask “are you over 16?”), work out your age on our servers, and refuse the account if you're under 16. Accounts made before we asked are asked on their next visit and can't be used until they answer.
- We don't run identity checks. If we learn from any source that an account holder is under 16, we suspend the account and tell them. If they don't show us within 14 days that they're 16 or over, we close it and delete its data.
- Children are welcome as the people you buy gifts for. A child's wishlist goes in through a parent's account.
4.4 Reporting
- Every item shared into a group has a ⚑ Report action, in the app and on the web. Choose a reason (illegal content, intimate image of me, abusive or hateful, about me without my consent, or something else), add details if you like, and send it. You'll get a reference number, and the person who shared it is never told who reported it.
- An intimate image of you, or of someone you're acting for, can be reported even if you don't have an account, using the form on our safety page.
- Anything else, including something you can't report in the app (a group name, a person, an email you received), can be reported by email to support@buymethis.online. You don't need an account.
4.5 What we do with reports
- A person reviews every report. Nothing is removed or dismissed automatically.
- We decide intimate image reports within 48 hours, illegal content reports within 72 hours, and all other reports within 7 days. We email you when we've received your report and again with the outcome, unless you tell us not to.
- We can decide to: take no action; take the item down, which removes it from every group it's shared into (it stays in its owner's private list but can't be shared again); or act on the account with a warning, suspension or closure. For an intimate image or illegal content we also stop its photos being shown anywhere, including identical copies uploaded by anyone else.
- We usually tell the person whose item was taken down what we did and how to appeal, but never who reported it. We don't tell them where the law or someone's safety requires otherwise.
- Child sexual abuse material: we take it down, report it to the National Crime Agency with the account information they need, and keep the evidence for as long as the law requires. We don't tell the person who uploaded it.
- Terrorist content: we take it down, close the account, and report it to counter-terrorism police.
- Other illegal content (for example threats, intimate image abuse, hate crimes or fraud): we take it down, act on the account, and report it to the police where someone is at risk.
4.6 Blocking
- You can block anyone in a group you're in, from the group's member list. You won't see each other's lists in any group, they can't send you invitations or gifts, and they can't join groups you own. They aren't told.
- You can also block an email address in Account → Blocked people, so invitations and gifts from that account never reach you.
- Every invitation and gift email has a link to block the sender, or to stop all invitations to that address. This works without an account.
4.7 Automated checks
Every photo has its location and device details removed when it's uploaded. We give each photo a digital fingerprint, used only to find identical copies when we take one down after a report. We don't otherwise scan what you share today. We are integrating the Internet Watch Foundation's service that checks uploaded images against known child sexual abuse material. Before it goes live we'll update this section to explain how it works, and how to complain if you think it got something wrong.
4.8 Complaints and appeals
- If you disagree with a decision (your item was taken down, your account was actioned, your report was dismissed, or we got your age wrong), appeal within 28 days by emailing support@buymethis.online with your reference. A fresh review decides it within 7 days. If we were wrong, we put things back.
- You can also complain about how we handle safety in general, or about anything to do with our duties under the Online Safety Act. We acknowledge complaints within 5 working days and respond within 28 days.
- We may close a complaint that repeats one we've already decided without anything new, or that is abusive. We never do this for a report of illegal content.
- Nothing here stops you complaining to Ofcom, to the Information Commissioner's Office, or going to court.
4.9 When we suspend or close accounts
We may suspend or close an account, and remove what it shared, if:
- it belongs to someone under 16 (see 4.3);
- it's used to share anything prohibited in 4.1, or keeps attracting valid reports;
- it's run by or for a proscribed organisation;
- it's used to abuse the service or other people; or
- the law requires us to.
5. Paid plans
- Serious Gifter and Family Gifter are yearly subscriptions. Prices are shown before you pay.
- They renew automatically each year at the then-current price until you cancel. If we change the price, we'll tell you at least 30 days before your renewal, and you can cancel before it applies.
- Bought in the iPhone app: payment, renewal, cancellation and refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's terms. Cancel in your Apple ID's subscription settings at least 24 hours before renewal.
- Bought on the web: payment is handled by Stripe. Cancel any time in Account → Manage subscription; you keep your plan until the end of the year you've paid for. If you cancel within 14 days of first paying, we'll refund you in full within 14 days, no reason needed. This is your legal right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, and we don't deduct anything for the days you used.
- If a plan ends, you keep everything you've added. Features that need a paid plan stop, and if you're over the free storage limit you can't upload more photos until you're back under it.
6. The service
- We work hard to keep Buy Me This available and your data safe, including regular backups, but we can't promise it will never be interrupted. We may change or improve features over time.
- Product links and prices come from shops and may be out of date; check with the shop before you buy. We don't sell anything ourselves and don't earn from links.
- If you're a consumer, you have legal rights these terms don't take away. Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit.
- We're not responsible for losses that weren't reasonably foreseeable, or for content other people share into your groups, except where the law makes us responsible.
7. Changes to these terms
We'll tell you about important changes in the app and by email at least 14 days before they take effect. If you don't agree, you can delete your account before then. Earlier versions are available on request.
8. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.
